Letters to volunteers

The letter from Yirui Yao

Dear volunteers,

How are you?

In this particular period, all of us have to stay at home and keep a social distance. It might make us feel a little bit boring but stay-at-home and practising good personal hygiene are the best way to slow down the spread of the virus.

In this period, I got time to reflect on the time I have been together with you, my dear volunteers. It didn’t matter when I met you, in the summer camp, or in an event or an activity. The most important is your beautiful faces and scenes of the great joy of being with you, which are still in my mind. We were singing, chatting, playing games together. I learnt painting, photographing, practised my English, joined the drama planning and performance, and took part in science lab activities. I can recall all moments and all the smiling faces. Now, all these memories make me feel so happy and warm. Every moment of being with you together is still fresh in my mind. They are my treasures!

One of my favourites is the experience of learning filming from a volunteer from Finland. The volunteer used his mobile phone to show us tips and skills of filming. To help us understand, he worked with an interpreter and explained step by step. For tips and skills of filming, such as how to keep balance, reduce camera shake, focus an object while moving, the volunteer introduced and explained every tip in details patiently.

After we practised and completed our films, the volunteer made comments for our works one by one. We love his humour, and the classroom was full of laughter and joy!

Dear volunteers, you come to us, bring happiness and joy to us, and help us. Because of you, we are thriving! I would like to say thank you! We are deeply grateful for everything you do for us. We can feel your love is pulling us up. In this period, we cannot go to school, but we are still working hard and would not let you down.

Please take care, stay safe and sound!

All the best,

Yirui Yao

Dear volunteers,

The lockdown measures keep us away from the virus, but it cannot break our connections. Our hearts still stay together.

No matter where we are, we are fighting the virus together!

Hope the virus can be contained soon! I believe the situation does not last forever. Our normal happy life will return soon.
